Know Your Brewer started a year ago as an effort to provide some content for the North Carolina Brewers Guild. We wanted to feature the stories and personalities behind North Carolina beer, so we started interviewing and profiling local brewers.
The site was a hit – not necessarily a runaway success, but enough to help provide some structure for the new North Carolina Brewers Guild web site (http://ncbeer.org).
While we achieved our initial goal of helping launch the NC Guild website, we’re confident there’s a broader opportunity to showcase American craft brewers.
Does the Internet need another beer-related website?
Beer websites tend to be product-centric. They serve a great purpose by enlightening enthusiasts and novices alike on the styles and flavor profiles of specialty beer. But we’ve found a neat niche – one that often connects the story of beer to the broader media: profiles of the men and women who make craft beer. We’re interested in questions like:
- When did you first discover a love for craft beer?
- What’s a typical day at the brewery like?
- Do you play music when you brew, and if so, what do you listen to?
- What’s your favorite food pairing with a beer you brew?
Know Your Brewer will also ask questions that make every brewery unique:
- Does the Rheinheitsgebot (German purity law) limit your brewery or allow it to carve a niche?
- How did you come up with the name of your brewery?
We’re still working on the details, but expect this page to update with fresh profiles and pints in 2010!
